Blast From the Past | Gys – Dim (Christian Bloch Manipulation)

I just stumpled upon this remix I did for Gys way back before the turn of the millenium. Holds up pretty well, I think. Unfortunately, the bitrate is kinda crappy, so I’ll see if I can dig out the original and reencode. In the meantime, Get it from Zer0 G.

New! [FUD 011] Christian Bloch | Controlled Experiment

This free release on Funque Droppings is a, hopefully, interesting look into my production process. Often, I will record a rough live mix of a track I’m working on so I can listen to it on the go and get ideas for where to take it. Controlled Experiment is a before and an after version of an experimental minimal techno track. I don’t see this being interesting to many labels, but I’m into it and I am happy to share. For free. So, go pick it up!

Doepfer Drehbank Sysex Files

One side of my current Sequencer/Controller setup

One side of my current Sequencer/Controller setup

As you can see in the image, I own three Doepfer Drehbanks. In order for them to be nice MIDI citizens, they need to operate on different channels, but since the editing software is ancient, this can be a real hassle. I recently was in contact with a fellow multiple Drehbank owner who had this problem and I put together Sysex files for him to address this problem. I am not sure how many people this is useful to, but I thought I’d share. There are 16 files, one for each channel from 1-16. All of the send CC#0-CC#127, the only difference is the MIDI channel.

Instructions:

  1. Download and unzip the Sysex files
  2. Download SysEx Librarian (Mac), MIDI-OX (PC) or use your favorite Sysex transmitter.
  3. Plug the Drehbank you want to modify into your MIDI interface (MIDI out on the interface to MIDI in on the Drehbank.
  4. Play the Sysex file corresponding to the MIDI channel you want the Drehbank to use. This sets the channel and control values temporarily. The setting will disappear if you turn the Drehbank off, unless you also perform the next step.
  5. Play the DB_STORE.SYX file. This permanently stores the new settings in your Drehbank’s EPROM.

Let me know if this was useful to you.

Access by Inode

This is a recent track I put out as part of a free compilation for the Decibel festival in Seattle. It should give you an idea of where I am musically at the moment. Check out Access by Inode on Soundcloud. It will likely get a proper release on Subtrak in the reasonably near future.

Welcome Back

Christian BlochHi there!

I’ve been mostly absent form the public eye for the past five years. When I last updated christianbloch.com, I had just moved with my wife to San Francisco from Detroit, which I’d moved to from Aalborg, Denmark. I didn’t have a steady job and times were tough, yet I was mostly happy, in no small part due to my wife. We were (and are) in it together.

Then in January 2004, the weirdest and most incredible thing happened. Google decided to hire me as an international coordinator to help launch the AdSense program in Danish. Since then, I have moved around a bit and I am now a localization project manager responsible for the localization (into 40+ languages) of Google Docs, Picasa, Picasa Web Albums, orkut, and Google Sites. I am now a little more sure why I’m here, but I’m no less excited about it.

In 2006 we had Lillian, in 2007 we moved to Brooklyn, and in 2008 Oliver arrived. While all of this went on, I had little time for music and even less to promote myself. I did manage to relaunch Funque Droppings as at netlabel and get involved in Subtrak, where I’ve put out a number of releases as both Christian Bloch and, with Ryan Brogan, The Pale. I have mostly spent my available time producing and sitting on the results, though.

While I can’t promise that this will change tremendously, I have decided to resume my public posting and I plan to keep it up. Welcome back! I hope too see you around here again soon.
